When do you guys decide that you are going to get a note graded?
Do you always grade with PMG?
Do you have your local dealer send the note in?
Or are you a member that sends your own note in?

I grade when it,s appropriate high grade or rare note somthing to show a value!
I,am a PCGS guy and only buy and grade with them :)

I have never sent anything in.
But when I do it will probably be PMG but not for sure. I will send it in myself and with a few extra items at once.

as mentioned, its best to grade on higher valued notes. It doesnt make sense to pay $30+ in grading on a note valued at $10. But as a side thought, if you have a new note that is rare because of a super low mintage or some other reason, it might not be worth much now, but you know its going to climb. Might be a good idea to invest now to help protect the note.

Jon makes some good points. The only graded notes I own are notes I purchased already graded. Most of my collection is $100 and under notes, and I protect them in Mylar-D holders I get from Linda at the Sellitstore. If you plan on selling your notes then grading is a big plus. Picking the TPG is highly controversial subject, and I'm not going to tell you where to send it because I'm a close personal friend of John Spinelli, (owner of the new CGA NOTES), and you might think my choice is biased.

I don't have third parties grade my notes, and I specifically avoid buying grated notes because the owner typically expects the price to be higher on them. I suppose there's a chance that in the future I would have my collection graded, but at this point I have no such plans.

Not trying to be mean here but CGA already has kind of a bad rap based on the prior owner,s
Over grading and selling his own notes!!

I'd like to reiterate that I will not recommend any of the TPG's for personal reasons. I'm not a big proponent of grading notes.

I have another quesiton. If a note was not graded would you trust purchasing it off of ebay? It is hard to see how good the note is off some of the photos.

The note I was questioning grading is a $5 silver certificate (indian). I bought it from a local dealer. I actually had purchased one earlier but another came in in much better shape and I traded up.

First off you need to have a reputable TPG in my opinion there are only two PCGS and PMG
Period!! there is no 3rd choice!! there it!! as far as buying anything ungraded off of e-bay be it a coin
Or currency you best educate yourself first or prepare to be taken!!

Boy does it seem to be.
And that is good that you were honest about it.
    Thanks for that.

Buying notes off ebay is much the same as buying notes in a shop. You have to be carefull either way. Would you buy a note from a shop where the glass on the case was covered in a blurry, fizzy, see through fabric that let you see the note, but not very well??? I sure wouldnt. The same thing with Ebay. I buy notes on Ebay almost as my main source for notes (because of budget reasons, i am usually a a buyer of low end notes). If the pictures arent clear, walk away - no, run, and dont look back. A good seller of a good note will certainly post good quality pictures because he knows he will get his best money with good clear pictures. If the pictures are bad, not always, but it could mean the seller has somethign to hide.
