I want to send my 20th anniversary silver sets in to be graded by pcgs. Do I take them out of the Mints original pastic holder? Thanks.
No---in fact IIRC PCGS won't even grade the coin as the 20th Ann. set unless you send it in the unopend box from the mint because they say that the proof and UNC could be changed since they are sold by themselves without the REV Proof... Speedy
Just to make myself plain---they will still grade the coins but they will not put 20th Ann. Set on the lable---so really that is no big deal...I'm keeping mine raw in the box ---that is when I get it!!! Speedy
That's the game you got to play. PCGS will get more submissions this way because people are taking a chance.
It would be interesting to see how many originally packaged sets survive after the TPG feeding frenzy we are experiencing with these sets. The hunt for the elusive PF-70 is at full swing and soon ebay will be flooded with slabbed PF-69 and MS-69 ASE's. Smart move Speedy!
Spoke to a dealer that I have purchased a few coins from and ask him about what he tought of the the Silver Eagle Anniversary Set. He told me that he could give me $175 for every raw set that i could get my hands on. The reverse proof and and if I am not mistaken the unc. with the satin finish can be certified as part of the anniversary set even if it is open becouse they are unique to this set. could be wrong about the uncirculated
The UNC with the satin finish can now be bought without anything else so the REV Proof is the only one that is unique. Speedy
thanks speedy. I have several sets coming and do not plan on having them slabbed. From what i have read, the 69 grade is not a given. course there is always a chance that one could get a 70. It is nice to know that one has that choice
its the same thing with NGC, you need to send them unopened. Basicly take the box that the postman gives you, put it untouched into another box and ship it off to them. december 8th is around the corner! (thats whn i am supposed to get mine)
ranch mine had a date of 12/8 but on friday i believe the status changed to "reserved and in stock" with the cancellation key gone. ordered around 6 pm central on the 2nd day. not sure what the reserved and in stock mean, but would assume (love that word) that it mean it could be shiped as early as monday or whenever they do there thing with the shipment. may have to look at my early statement about not having them graded. some huge bucks in this if you are lucky enuff to get a couple of 70
Here is what NGC has to say about sending in these sets... http://www.ngccoin.com/news/viewarticle.asp?IDArticle=405 Speedy
mine's still marked as back ordered ;( I am only ordering one set, and sending it off to NGC. I plan on keeping it, but if it comes back 70 I would highly consider selling
I am a collector not an investor. But it's kind of like the 3 acres i bought next to my house to keep someone else from getting it and doing all kinds of nasty stuff to it. I would never sell this land but it would be nice to know that in a few years it would be worth more than i paid for it.
I'm just curious. Has anyone had any experience sending in coins for grading that are recent issue proofs/uncirculated coins from the mint that they wish to share? My thoughts are that the many coins I have purchased from the mint in recent years all seem to be in pretty much fantastic condition. While I am not an expereinced grader, all seem to be between 68/69 quality when I do comparisons at coin shows. I wonder if the majority of these coins are being graded 68/69. Of course I do not have the benefit of using microscopic comparisons and maybe that is where I am misjudging the grade of my coins. Any comments? Dragon
AND THERE OFF!! I got my sets today and already have them in the mail to PCGS. I didn't even get to open the box to look at them, but thats the price you pay I guess. I did the 15 day guaranteed service. I should have them back in the middle of December some time, unless there are delays. Wish me luck, LOL!
