If I were to go to the bank and start roll searching what would be the best to get for finding SILVER? Dimes, quarters, or halves??? Poll is at the top!

Halves, definitely. More per box and more per coin ! Only because they don't circulate as much as the other 2

if you can afford halves do it. if not.... dimes like me. I would NOT waste my time on quarters. good luck. volume is the key to finding silver. I do $100 in dimes every other paycheck that is not rent check. I usually find 1 or 2 dimes every 3rd- 4th times looking. i enjoy the thrill of finding it ...not for making money. if you are only in it to make money..do halves. you will at least find many 40% silver and some 90% silver. I post all my finds in the "roll searchers post your results" thread check out my posts.

The best thing for you to get from the bank would be the deed to a silver mine.

I gave up on halves a year or two ago. Five or six years ago, it was still worthwhile, but after the big silver spike they got pretty thoroughly mined out. People will still be cashing in inheritances and stolen goods, so they'll still show up periodically, but I decided I wasn't getting enough enjoyment to make it worth my time.

Plus, they can be harder to get rid of. I had about ten pounds of clad that I'd been trying to figure out what to do with. This weekend we finally dumped them into a CoinStar, got a Lowe's gift card (full cash value with no 9% off the top), and turned them into a nice new tool chest. :)

TD bank counts coins for free if you keep $100 in checking. That makes dumping half dollars so much easier. But I agree they seem to be drying up a bit. Dimes are still going strong though.

I have no clue. I only withdraw nickels and pennies.

Yeah, and that would be great if only we had TD banks around here.

I used to visit half a dozen or so different banks, and NONE of them had coin counters. I'm not sure what it is about this area...

I don't know where you are located but I have noticed that the credit unions around me all have free coin counters for members. I made sure to join all of them that I could :)

I would say halves, even though a lot of banks will tell you they don't have any. They may have some in their vault but may not want to bother with getting them out. You are more likely to find some silver in a roll of halves than any other denomination. Dimes would be second, nickels third but I have not found a silver quarter in a roll for over two years.

I did pick up a box of quarters last week and the only $70 of halves Bank of America had. I found one 1964 quarter. That was it!
