Okay, I've been waiting a long time for this, as some of you may know. And most, if all of us know that there was a release date of Febuary 10, 2011 that was later canceled in the begining of October of last year. There were talks of just burning all of the new $100 bills they printed so far and starting again from scratch, at first, but then they were talking about getting a machine to seperate all of the bad bills from the good ones, but they said that the procress could take a year, so I hope I don't have to wait unto 2012 to get a few new $100s. Does anyone here think that the Feds will still issue new $100 bills this year, since they are likely still printing more new $100s? If so, when do you think they might be released? I figure either summer or fall of this year, and I hope I am right about this summer. I did email the BEP asking when they thought a new release date may be issued, but that was just before New Year's Day, so I have to likely wait until monday January 3 to find out what they have to say about the issue. I will let everyone here who is interested know what the BEP says when I get a reply.
I'm not sure they are currently printing these bills. I have not heard the printing issue has been resolved. Just imagine the extremely high count of Star Notes there will be if they try to separate the good ones from the bad.
My guess would be "not soon". The BEP has now switched back to printing non-colorized Series 2006 $100's, and they wouldn't've done that if they thought they could get the problems with the Kodachrome $100 resolved quickly. Maybe they'll still be able to get the new version out in 2011, but I'm afraid it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't....
I was hoping so, but probably not. I think they need me to go in there and figure out their problem. I'll give everyone here an error note or two if they do. Don't hold your breath though.
Perhaps we will never see them, an issue of being printed but never issued/released into circulation. So when the current Treasurer exits and signatures need to be updated on the plates they will resume printing... Perhaps partially reason for the hold up if Geithner is stepping down in near future...?
