I recently found a Series 2003 $5 bill with a fancy serial number that reads DE11111234B. The note is well circulated, probably VF condition at best. Is there a guide to currency collection that can help me figure out what to set aside? I don't collect currency, but if I find something neat, I would love to trade it for a coin of some sort. Thanks- Mike
the note is a a ladder of sorts. 'most' fancy serial numbers are only fancy to those who find them, and have little interest tot he collector community. This note is not one of them .. not exactly lol. Its a type of ladder, but not quite, its a solid serial ... but not quite .... not really sure if it would fetch much especially considering the condition. as far as i know... except for looking at places like ebay and getting a 'feel' for the going price if any .. im not sure if there IS a guide book of sorts that track prices for this type of note ....
Thanks Daggarjon. Notes like this are semi-cool and drive me crazy. They are not in any particular catagory that I know of and aren't even good enough for liars poker! Oh well- 5 McChickens this week... Thanks for the help. Mike
Like with coins, Notes lose value when circulated especially when dealing with fancy numbers. There are more than enough CHCU notes out there with fancy numbers that any that are circulated lose most of their collectible value - IMO. If you are collecting a specific number the note may - that's a stretch - have a little extra value over face (as part of a larger collection) unless the note is collectible on it's own. Nice find - as a $5 - I would probably put it away or offer it up on a site like CT or WG (wheresgeorge forum under bill collectors) in the event it fit someone elses collection. Regards ~ Darryl
Darryl- Thanks for the tip on WG! I have been on the site, but I missed that they had collectors there. I'll check it out. Mike (USSCV43 as a Marine)
I have met a few sailors that have served on carriers and most of them scared me just a little... I watched one neighbor check his rifle by pointing it at his bed and pulling the trigger - turns out it was loaded - fortunately the wood floor held the round! I am sure it was pretty interesting duty and one of a number of places where I would want my best friend to be a Marine or a Seal (as they are certifiable )! Notes come available all the time on that site at a very reasonable price - someone is always willing to pick up fancy numbered notes. Best Regards!
