It really depends on the year of the cent and the grade. A 1931-s can cost you between $50 and $150. Many of the rest are pretty inexpensive, I'd say less than $10 in MS.
Your question is pretty vague Bob. San Francisco wheat cents from 1930 to 1955 (the last year of San Francisco production) range in value from a couple of cents to $350 or so, depending on the specific year, the condition/grade of the coin, and whether or not it is an error or rare variety coin.
You're right satootoko, I didnt even take into consideration the errors or variety coins like the overdates and so forth.
These dates are very common San Francisco wheats worth from a few cents to a few bucks depending on the grade.
"s" mintmarks on wheaties are not really that rare. there are some coins with an s maintmark that are extermely rare. the coins you have are probaly worth just a nickel or so in circulated condition. look for the s mintmark on the 1968-1974 cents though because they are not common and kindof rare. also look for the s mintmarks after 1974 because these are proofs. look for the 1968-1970 s nickels because they are also rare. look for the 1971 and newer nickels with an s mintmark because these are proofs. in dimes, keep all the s mintmarks because these are proofs, no matter what the year. also keep 1969 dimes because they are also rare. don't keep the 1969 dimes with a D mintmark though, these are common. and in quarters all s marks are proofs but keep the 1976 quarters becuase these are bicentinals and are also sortof rare.
So the Red Book is wrong in stating that none of the 172,500 1861S dimes are proofs? How about the other tens (hundreds?) of millions of Liberty Seated, Barber, Mercury and Roosevelt dimes it lists as business strikes through the end of silver circulation coinage in 1964?
Coinlover, Roy and Frank are right, they are only trying to help do a little more research son and you will see that what they are saying is true, we are all here to learn each and everyone of us. Bruce.
he was asking about wheat cents, so i told him about anything newer than wheat cents. i know there were proofs before that but i was just telling him what to keep in MODERN pocket change.
Bryan, Just so you know , the 1968-s 69 & 70 -S nickels are not rare I find them is circulation all the time they are business strike coins that the mint put out in those years. Bruce.
