New poster. Check my introduction for more info :)

Aside from my inheritance, when I bought my house 5 years ago there was a small trove of wheaties. One of the very small containers I have with about 200 pennies in, the pennies are all covered with green.... stuff...

Not like a patina of green encroaching, I mean this weird greenish crystal growth stuff. It looks like a drunken leprechaun puked all over the coins, mostly on the edges. I haven't tried looking at dates yet, not sure if I should try cleaning this stuff off and how yet or what.

    Suggestions?

The leprechaun puke is verdigris and it's eating your coins. There are methods to slow it down but usually the damage is already done and you'll wind up with a pitted coin.

Some of the other members who have experience with this will chime in soon.
