1900 wheat penny. Oldest coin I’ve came across so far. Is it worth getting appraised? Seems to be in really good shape
Welcome to CT! That is not a wheat penny. It is an Indian head. It isn't worth getting appraised. In the condition it is in, it is worth about $0.40
Yep, just as proclaimed by the above distinguished gentlemen(and Furry too), it's not worth much. But boy if that rascal could talk it would be worth a million bucks in the stories that it could regale us with. It's got character , so I would keep it, Jscragg.
Now that I look at the coin again, I was mistaken with the wear. I have seen many newer dates with much more wear, so I retract my comment and vote for keeping it as a good example of an IHC.
That's not a Wheat Cent. It's an Indian Head Cent. In that condition it's worth about fifty cents. Time to read up on coins so get yourself an R S Yeoman Red Book. Welcome to CT.
There is a big difference between a Indian Head Cent and a Wheat Cent. The IHC has a Laurel Wreath on the reverse and a Wheat Cent has two separate Wheat Stalks.
My wife dumped almost $12 worth of change on me this morning. I was surprised to find a 1961-D Washington Quarter and a 1965 Lincoln Memorial Cent. There were a few more quarters from the Sixties & Seventies in there which just shows how durable these coins really are. Just think, 1961 was the year JFK was inaugurated, and I was in 11th grade. The Mint is going to issue a commemorative Morgan Dollar next year...too bad it's only a commemorative and not something to replace the paper dollar.
Sure is a good find. Sometimes, its an odd find that is the one that feels the best. Keep looking! Ive found one IHC in my whole life roll hunting! And she sure was ugly, dented, bent, but I still have it. I have homework to do but if I remember to come back I will take photographs
