Hey, alot of you guys out there looking for wheat penny rolls on eBay probably a lot of rolls with rare coins. They put those in to make a good profit, I always thought. Are these ok places to buy rolls from people? If anybody has bought these rolls, can you tell me what you got?

99+% of what you see on ebay for "unsearched rolls" are junk, they are searched and filled with common 40s/50s cents. It's a common tactic to seed the roll with a couple OK coins like IHC's or BU (normally 50's), usually stuck on the ends. IMO they are a complete rip off. I've seen people paying sky money for these things....plain dumb IMO.

I would'nt be so sure that they're all junk. I bought a $4 roll 3 months ago, I had the same mentallity, "these are so FAKE". But I it had some pretty good stuff not to mention 1944 D/S. 20% teenies, 10% 20's, 30% 30's, and 3 steelies.

Lucky find! I imagine there are a few out there with good stuff to keep the few that get them coming back.

Those roll auctions might be a viable option if you need to fastrak your album project with common dates. I wouldn't necessarily pay a premium for them. Putting decent coins on the ends are just a gimmick to enhance the price and to reel in the uneducated.

A better move would to be paying a visit to a local dealer and asking to buy a 5000 ct bag. Most places sell them for 5 cents each. You'll save a money and have fun searching it.....more importantly, you'll get them for exactly 5 cents....the going rate.

That would be a much better way to go. At least you could see with your own two eyes what you're buying. Finding a dealer that has "ready to sell" $50 bags of wheats to sell is the million dollar question.
