It looks like it was damaged, but I can't really give a firm opinion because the photos are a bit out of focus.

I agree. Damaged. It looks like someone removed material/date perhaps out of boredom. The reverse was left alone.

Resembles die deterioration doubling of the obverse. The reverse is probably a some what newer die in working time ( but certainly not recent. ). Jim

These are completely in focus. The 1st pictures were also. It does appear a bit blurry on the obverse but every picture I have taken turns out just the same. Screenshot_20240816_222835_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20240816_222839_Gallery.jpg

There are lines on the obverse, they're all in the same direction.

I believe the obverse has been tampered with after it left the mint.

You're right. I was hoping for an answer besides PMD. But it looks like it’s unanimous. Maybe next coin will be something worth holding onto.

Many times people will have their camera (whether cell or real camera) too close to the object for it to focus properly. Of course, if it's a cheaper camera with a plastic lens over it that cheaper lens can remove fine details (good example is my iPhone XR [crystal glass lens] vs LG Stylo 4 [plastic]). But if the image does not look exactly in the fine details as the object itself, try taking the image a little further away and crop it a bit more.
Also be aware some cameras love to auto focus on backgrounds that have more detail than the image itself, so be aware of how to manually select focus on your camera or use a background with no details (like paper)

I don't see that much difference in the wear. The rim is gone much of the way around the reverse too. Possibly the date was clogged with grease when struck.

Looks like you used vinegar on it? Sure brought out all the scratches without doing much for the date. 45 is a good a guess as any I suppose.

Ok, I was just watching a video and came across a 1968 penny that looks like the wheat penny I posted. Skip to 25:35 in the video please, then can someone explain the difference in what I have and this coin? Thanks

It was put in a dryer. Only the top half was.

I know, it looks strange. Usually they put both halves in, not just one. :D

    Wire wheel most likely.
