Wheat Penny Color Change

    Hi, I got two rolls of pennies today that turned out to be mostly wheats. As you can see in the picture though they are multi colored but in really good shape other than color. What causes this and is there a premium for this? IMG_0691.jpg IMG_0692.jpg

    What color the copper coins changes to depends on the environment they are exposed to. On circulated coins I doubt if the color of them would effect their value.

    those are all artificially toned. someone was having some fun

    I would guess someone gave them a bath in some type of soap.

    Yep, the date and mintmark effects their value. The color though, partially affects how much above that value that I'll pay for the coin.:smile
    To add, these colors aren't really desirable in wheats IMO.
