These are early. I have improved my focus lately. Still need to work on the lighting. Suggestions for improvement will be warmly received.
Two light sources can help with some coins. I sometimes use a piece of white paper or waxed paper to soften light source to help cut glare.
Here is a shot of my very basic set up. I use a CD spindle to get my coin above the background for easier focus. You also need some sort of tripod as you cannot hold the the camera still in your hand for macro photography at the shutter speeds that give you the best depth of field. I have this table top that holds mine. I also have a tripod the holds my phone. You also should use the delay shutter, 5 seconds so that I am not touching the camera or phone when the shutter snaps. You need good lighting and something to diffuse or soften the light so you don't get over saturation. There are much more elaborate set ups and much more basic ones depending on what you want. Edit. Don't forget a photo editor app to crop and to make minor adjustments such as side by side presentation.
