thanks rlm..i was not sure about that....heres another one then...where is it minted if it has no mint mark..any wheat?
The 'no mintmark' coins are from Philadelphia. The reasoning was that the Philly mint is the main mint and did not need a designation. (until late in the 20th century).
Treashunt's right on the money, but to ask that question you have not obtained a copy of the Redbook yet. It is the definitive book on U.S.A. coinage. You must have more questions and the Redbook can answer most of them (there are some numismatic errors in it, but all-in-all it's the best book for a beginning coin collector). A new one is issued every year. Clinker
1922 was an odd year for Lincoln cents. They were only minted in Denver. None were minted in Philadelphia. However some do not have a mintmark and many have a very weak mintmark. The 1922 Lincoln cents with no mintmark were minted in Denver using dies that were in poor condition and the mintmark had been ground off. Those with weak mintmarks were struck with dies that grease (or some other foreign matter) filled the mintmark. If Philadelphia had minted cents in 1922 they would be nearly indistinguishable from the "1922 plain" cents coming out of Denver.
