is it ancient or modern, gold, silver or clad, commemorative or bullion, proof or mint set, u.s. or foreign?. i collect most except ancient.
Silver Coins and Silver Proof Sets I've haven't been collecting all that long but I have found that want really floats my boat are silver proof sets. I have a collection of 1955-1964 proof sets in the original packaging plus I've put together the same collection in 2X2 flips displayed in the 20 count sheets in a D-ring binder. I like the break outs best because their display is so much more appealing. The original packaged sets are hard to see the quality of the coins in most cases. I am working hard to save money to purchase the 1950-1954 sets but that will take some time and I hope to find some deals when the time is right. BU/MS 1964 Kennedys are my other passion. I can't seem to collect enough, I have have 3.5 rolls and I would love to have a couple hundred, at least. The Mercury dime is a big favorite. I have all the 40's BU/MS and I'm working on getting the teen's, 20's and 30's BU/MS. So many coins--so little time and money.
I Have a complete set of Mint & proof set's clad and silver date run from 1956 to present also have a complete set of SAE proof and Unc I am working on a Dansco 7070 Type set with the gold page at this time that is a fun set to put together I guess by putting the mint and proof set run Together I have alot of completed sets I am one coin away 1949-S from a completed set of UNC Franklin Halves all toners with FBL now that was a fun set to do I tried to get all of the toning to look the same. Three areas that intrigue me; 1) Medieval (850-1400) 2) Early Milled Coinage (varies from place to place but is generally) 1640-1830 (late 17th-18th century being my favourite!) 3) Imperial Roman coinage.
Lincoln cents are my main focus, but I'm collecting all denominations of coins in circulated condition from 1900-2000, with an exception for Flying Eagle Cents from 1954-1958.
Mostly collect V nickels, Indian head cents, and a few mercury dimes, but have a few nice late 1900's of all types.
Morgans, Franklin Halfs, Lincolns and thinking of starting a mercury dime set. I also like collecting gold AEs.
Japanese moderns (1870-present) One from every country/monetary regime (British penny/shilling/pound and British decimal penny/pound are different) Japanese mint sets in original packaging Walking Liberties Any interesting stuff I run across

I just got back to resuming my collection of French 20 Franc Gold Coins from 1801 to 1914. I am not collecting every year the coin was minted or where it was minted but every type of 20 gold franc from that period. They start out with the great Napoleon who ended serfdom throughout Europe but end with a chicken that can't lay an egg, a rooster. For me it sums up France from being something great to well.... I have a 1848 first year angel waiting for me to pick up at the post office which I hope to get to this Tuesday. First purchase in a while so I'm excited about that.
Like most people in the US,I started with a couple of proof sets which led me to completing them from 1953 and mint sets from 1958..then finished off the mercury,Roosevelt,Jefferson,Lincoln, silver eagles,Kennedys, state quarters,Euro Set,Morgan-Peace date set etc....Dansco stuff... Then I bought a some older US colonial coppers, late 1790's cents and eventually a US type set (excluding some of the gold). Then I went to ancients and worked my way from 550BC to 19th century, anything and everything except asian coins.(OK I have one Wang Mang from 9-22AD).It's a timeline of coinage with at least one coin from every decade of the last 2500+ years, with one or two missing in the 7th-9th centuries (damn dark ages).Lots of other miscellaneous things of interest.I've been collecting for only 3 1/2 years actively.
My focus has switched to a Mexican type set. Mostly copper, bronze and nickel coins, seeing how I’m poor again. lol
US coins only, focusing on Dimes. I'm about done with Roosevelts (all uncirculated) and am working on sets of Mercury dimes and Barber dimes. I just picked up uncirculated 1924 and 1926 Mercurys at a coin show yesterday along with a beautiful toned 1903 Barber dime that's a legit MS-63. I also have a handful of Seated Liberty dimes and some Bust dimes as well, and hope to fill out my colleciton of those too.
I thought I was concentrating on Morgans, but my last three purchases have been two Barber dimes and a Barber quarter. I've been assimilated.
