The top of the left wheat sheaf in her liberty cap. It doesn't have the same "cam" effect. *gasp!!!* Ditto to the tip of the bust.
I may be wrong but I believe that Daniel is referring to the Black background in the pictures of the full Obverse and Reverse! If so, the Seller just used a Photo program to black out the background or change the white to black. Also, what looks like missing Cameo affect, is actually hazing and toning! If it were not for the hazing in the fields, the coin would very nearly be considered a DMPL. Frank
Frank: The coin looks the same in the holder picture as in the blow ups. Do you really think that it is doctored (the picture)?
I think he cracked it out of the holder and put is on an oiled rag to make the backdrop black. J/K.....He definately reversed the white field with some photo editor to make it black. I agree with Huntsman Frank. Freddypm
you are very smart! :gasp: I dont know the difference between candy and ice cream (dont ask where i got that, cause i do know and plus i just snatched the thing out of thin air) by the way I am the queen of icecream But I have to agree with him
Here are my thoughts: Looks like he actually highlighted the coin's devices in the photos, as you can see by how the lighting on the devices is uneven and some of the letters are a much darker color. Also it looks like he put a different coin in the slab photo than is actually in the slab. You can see the coin (in the slab photo) is a completely different angle than the slab itself. Totally photoshopped photos.
I'm referring to the coin itself. It's very easy to circle crop coins and put them on different backgrounds and I don't have a problem with that. LOL I do it all the time.
Daniel, I understand what you are saying but really don't believe that is the case here! Sure, the Seller has more than likely changed the brightness of the image of the coin since he or she blacked out the background but I don't beleive that they have manipulated the Frost (Cameo) areas of the coin. It takes a very steady hand to outline Miss Liberty's entire bust without many mistakes (running outside or inside the line per say). Since there are only the few areas that you noted and no evidence elsewhere on her' bust, I believe that these areas are just due to hazing and toning. This is what I think and I could be wrong! Also, (Frank) Treashunt is correct! The coin in the picture of the full Obverse with the black background (at least Obverse wise), is the same coin that resides in the NGC holder! Frank
Yes. He used a photo editing program to brighten the devices (but he did a very sloppy job) while leaving the fields a darker color; thus creating a cameo effect that isn't really there.
Daniel, Do you mean that the frost or Cameo affect isn't really there? If so, then I disagree! You can tell by the texture of the Design elements that that they are frosted! Also, without outlining Miss Liberty's bust to isolate it from the fields, just how would the Seller brighten the devices with brightening the fields as well? Frank
Yes, I know. He did the touch-up work on the large obverse photo THEN he circle cropped it and inserted it over the top of the coin actually in the slab photo. I know as a fact that both can be done. Here's an example of how easily this can be done (5 minutes work for the rev...the obverse took about a half hour since I did the stars and letters too. Circle cropping and putting the obverse photo into the slab photo took 10 seconds ).
It's very simple. He jacked up the contrast in a photo editor, big time. Notice how the outline around the nose of Liberty is very heavy ? When you boost the contrast, shadows expand and become pixelated. Also, it appears he may have raised the brightness of the pic. That would brighten the raised details, which have more light, more than the fields. He could have used the sharpening tool, in spots, as well. I could soooooo become a scammer if I were ever to use my PhotoShop powers for evil. LOL
I'm not saying that it is or isn't frosted/cameo'd. After all he says it graded by NGC as MS65 PL. All I'm saying is that he artificially INCREASED the cameo by outlining the devices and brightening them. You are quite right, it does require a very steady hand but it most certainly can be done as I just proved above. You are of course entitled to your opinion but I am 100% sure that this was done to the photos.
So could I, I'm afraid. My work above would fool me if I hadn't done it. Just to make sure no one gets the wrong impression, I would never ever ever do this to a photo of a coin I had for sale on ebay or anywhere else.
