I always use currency when I shop.Suddenly, whenever I use a $20 bill here in New York City, the clerk holds the bill up to the light. In one embarrassing instance, a store manager had to be called to examine the bill. Since ATMs give $20 bills most of the time, this is getting annoying. What's going on? I never had these problems before with $20 bills.
theres a counterfieting ring going around dumping fake 20's and 10's and they've gotten really realy good.. even th security strip is there...
Even here in Kentucky I have noticed a lot of places all of the sudden running the marker across 20's. And don't try to use a hundred - a lot of places won't accept them. It can be a pain.
We have had decent counterfeit fives going through town lately. Quality fake twenties have been going around for a couple of years here.
Last month at the Anderson Indiana coin club meeting it was announced that one of the local banks was receiving a lot of fake 20's, 10's, 5's, and even 1's.
The guy at the gas station told me that $20 bills were the most faked of them all. He said they get a few fake 20s every month.
I don't see why anyone would find that embarrassing. Seen signs on store doors that they won't take $100.00 bills, but have not had anyone of my bills ever checked.
everything from the $2 up gets checked here. normal occurance. is new york finally behind in the times???
There are foreign governments and organizations counterfeiting large numbers of $20 and $50 (or even $100) in the NYC area. Yellow markers are useless to detect them and they have strips and imprints. This is why so many twenty dollar bill changes have occurred.
One dollar notes are the easiest of all to fake and pass. There are no added security features, they can be color copied (costing just a few cents each), and no one ever checks them. Professional counterfeiters avoid them because of the low denomination, but amatuers love 'em.
Well then, I would consider those bills genuine. Remember the words of master forger Mark Hoffmann: "If I can produce something so correctly, so perfect that the experts declare it to be genuine, then for all practical purposes it is genuine."
AND........they have just as much REAL VALUE as the genuine article. In other words.................it's only paper whose value can be measured in how many things it can wrap or how long it will keep you warm on a cold winters night.
What part of NYC are you talking about? Most of the places I shop at don't check any bills. The larger stores don't even blink when you give them a $100 bill. They stuff them in the register and thats that.
Not when you try to deposit them in the bank. The bank will flush them out and leave you holding the bag.
did you miss the part about the experts declaring them genuine? In that case the bank won't be flushing them out.
