First that great bank robbery/cash haul back in the 50's, now this? http://www.daytondailynews.com/n/content/oh/story/news/local/2009/01/19/ddn011909brinksweb.html Y'know, there was a Powerpuff Girls episode (lay off, I was still young when it aired) where a Female Bankrobber only demanded her loot in Susie B. dollar coins. So maybe Radical Feminists?
Thank you for that. One of the funniest things I've read in a long while. As the article says: "Be on the lookup for people buying big ticket items"... What? With 20 rolls of halves??? Priceless. I think instead they should say to be on the lookout for anyone turning in a bunch of 40% silver Kennedy's at the local pawn shop!
Don't say that! Spending silver or collectable coins should not raise suspicion. Remember this thread from a few weeks ago? Police after woman who spends old coins
I usually think "inside job" on these things, but I can't imagine someone went through all that trouble, knowing that they were going to get heavy bags of coins. I'll bet they were ticked.
I can't seem to get any halves at any of my local banks, maybe they have the same problem and took it up a notch.
I think it's pathetic all it took was a torch to get into the vault. :goof: Plus, what kind of security system are they using? Ribbit
CoyoteMoss: LOL!!! HandsomeToad: Exactly. That's why I think "inside job." There's no way a torch is going to get you into a Brinks vault that has anything of value inside.
UPDATE The reward has been increased to $50,000. Reward Increased In Brinks Coin Theft Silver half-dollars?? Really?!?!?! (I think not. Just another example of poor reporting I suspect.)
if I was an uneducated thief, I would probly go for the dollar and half dollar bags as they have the most face value per bag. If they are fairly strong guys, makes sense to go for those rather than haulin pennies.
Given how some of us report finding Walkers, Frankins, and 1964/40% Silver Kennedy's in those $500 Coin Bricks, I wouldn't put it past it that they were all silver.
So Brinks get robbed. Is it surprising? As Willie Sutton said when he was asked why he robbed banks, "That's where the money is."
They should have had an Armed Security Guard on duty and this could have been avoided and Security systems in place.
