Was looking through a roll of 63D's and found 2 like the one on the right. Is this normal, and should I quarantine them from the rest? What causes this look?
Not really worried, they just kind of stand out and look different. Almost "wooden" like. Just wondering if this was normal. Just a slightly different looking effect than I have seen.
A Somewhat peachy color is not bad... besisdes that, the one on the right apears to be in better condition, circulation-wise. So yeah, I would say it is normal.
It's normal or been wiped, dipped, Maybe the planchets were different. Nothing here to take a second look at it's just a different lighter color.
With some planchets the alloy mixture was not perfect, and you can get a streaky or grainy pattern in the toning over time. Because of the look they are often referred to as "woodies."
What is odd is the one on the left appears to have Lincoln Doubled. Don't worry about the differences in those two. Just two different coins from two different situations and mintages.
Thanks. I knew it was nothing special. I was just trying to figure out why it looked so different. That "grainy" effect had me curious.
I keep getting logged out every 3 minutes! Anyway, thanks for the link jallengomez, I tried doing a search before asking as I was sure it had come up somewhere. Must have used the wrong search phrase. That's exactly what I was looking for. Those are some awesome photos. So, they are collectable? rlm's cents said they were unusual past the 30's. So, it sounds like I should hang on to them?
