What's up with this help please is this a doubled die

    I found this quarter that looks like there's another f next to of and an a before the a in America is this a doubled die

    Thanks I wonder why this looks like letters though no other coins have letters next to other letters from wear I not questioning you it's just something never seen before thanks for your help I appreciate it

    It's a common effect from worn or overused dies.

    Part of the learning experience is understanding how the minting process works and how it can affect the appearance of the coins produced. Too often, people read about error and variety discoveries that are worth many times more than the face value of a coin, and automatically think that all anomalies are created during the minting operations. It's not that easy.

    I see the effect of die erosion but that's about it.

    There are several good books on mintage processes and error coins.

    Thanks you guys are awesome I new and don't care about value of coins I just want my collection to be cool and accurate so I don't label something wrong so far I got a few really neat looking coins
