Ouch. Looks like it took a hit from a garbage disposal or samurai sword.

It looks like Lincoln is sleeping.

Nice. That one would make it into my collection.

If you can see remnants of the date under the peal, that is a major lamination. That will not make it particularly valuable, but definitely interesting.

    That's plain old fashioned damage.

that is defiantly a lamination error. it is really nice how the peel is still hanging on. That carries a premium to the right people.

Lamination peel, you can see the flaw all the way across the obverse. EXCELLENT FIND! When the lamination is still retained like that, it adds value. $10+ coin IMO.

See if you can determine a date. look through a loupe and see if you can see at least the 3rd number. try not to touch it be VERY careful not to knock off the retained peel.

That's a lamination peel; not damage.

I'll definately yield to Mike but not you Doug. :p This has all the hallmarks of a lamination peel.....and a nice example at that.

I tried overlaying a coin to see if a piece of the date is or should be showing. However, I found the date is (or should be) nearly perfectly beneath the peel.

Considering the amount of wear the coin has seen, wouldn't a lamination have fallen off by now?

    Yeah,

That's a plain old fashioned lamination. This coin is definitely NOT post mint damage.

There's also a lamination crack with some minor peeling that runs NE from the base of the L in LIBERTY and continuing through the eye. Nice find on this one.

I think it is both a lamination AND damage. the coin had a lamination but something has hit the coin to force that lamination back away from where it was.
