    Exactly. This coin does appear to have had a tough go.

    Only on the inside of 1 letter and 1 number?

    The copper plating on the top of both has come off to expose the zinc below.
    I think the 9 is next when returned to circulation.

    Yeah, something shaved (or abraided) the cladding from the tops...zinc rot will follow soon.

    Copper plated Zinc Cents are plated not cladded.
