I am wondering what is the oldest U.S. note that you find in change. The oldest for me was a 1977 $1 note.
1963A $1.00 I just started looking thru straps 2.5 years ago. If I had started 30-40 years ago, maybe a Silver Cert.
1934 $10 note in VF+ I think it's a light green seal. Don't know if that matters for that year or not.
1934 $20s, $50s and $100s. One lime $50 and one lime $100. They came from series 1934, 1934A and 1934C. Oldest $1 was from 1977, oddly.
In the past few years I have come across 5-6 1928 notes, and many many more from the 1934 series. I live in an area with a lot of retired people - it is just money from the sock drawer for them.
There's no such thing as a 1938 $5 note. Matter of fact, there's no 1938 series in any denomination of U.S. notes.
$1-1957 at wal-mart $2-1953 at bank $5-1963 at bank $10-probably 1999 or 2001 (LOL) $20-1977 $50-1934 (in a card from my grandma, dont know if that counts) $100- 1991 (lol)
May not count but someone paid me one time with a really worn out $1 SC from 1923. It probably still is worth only a dollar in the condition it is in.
1923 series $1s were large size. Were you paid in a large size dollar? Or do you mean 1928? In 1928 silver certificates became the size of money we know today.
Several years ago I found a 1974 $1 Minneapolis star note in my change, in XF condition. Since it is one of the key stars for that series, it probably came out of somebody's collection. I have also found a 1950A $10 in VF, and a 1963A Barr note.
Yeah I believe it. Especially if he worked at one. A $500 Gold Certificate walked into a bank in Northern California about 2 years ago. This lady found an AU, albeit pressed, 1928 $500 GC in an encyclopedia that belonged to her grandfather. She initially wanted change in hundreds. The teller wanted it for himself and asked to let her personally exchange it with him. She agreed, but he didn't have enough cash to break her bill. He couldn't take anything from the drawer or he would get fired. He asked the lady to come back around lunch time. She never did. That teller hooked me up with some red $2s that came in not long ago, and shared this story with me.
my bank had a $500 GC once, but i was 8 years old. I didnt have $500 and my parents wouldnt loan me money. and then the manager bought it right there.
It's been a while since I've found anything too terribly old just circulating and not by deliberately searching through straps of old teller notes. I seem to recall a Series 1969 $5, a couple Series 1950 $10, and various Series 1934 notes (but these I haven't found in +5 years at this point). Note that just going from memory, I don't recall which Series letters for those notes mentioned above were found.
