This might be a stupid question but... whats the difference between a customer wrapped roll and a bank wrapped roll and how do i tell the difference?
Customer wrapped is when a person like you wraps the coins. Bank wrapped means, a bank wrapped it. I don't buy rolls but I'd say if wrapped by a bank, the wrapper sort of indicates this. If wrapped by a customer, it's those generic wrappers you can find at the dollar store.
If the roll is made of paper, the bank-wrapped roll would have the crimped edges where you can see the end coins. A customer wrapped roll would be one where you fold the paper ends over to close the end completely. The only way that the bank-wrapped roll and the customer-wrapped roll would look similar is if the customer bought his own rolling machine. Chris
oh ok. every bank i go to only has bank wrapped and i've never seen any customer wrapped so thanks guys
With the advent of coin counter machines, I believe customer wrapped rolls will become less prevalent. I never have wrapped a roll in my life, as I always refused to do so preferring to bank where they have a coin counter to count my change for me for free. However, I WILL say, to all of those roll searchers, I would seek out those bags from the coin counters from banks. Those are what you are after, people emptying their change jars.
Chris, you may be lazy (J/K!) and prefer the coin machines in lieu of doing it yourself, but I experimented with machines at several different banks, different credit union branches and even some WalMart's. I counted all of the change before depositing it, and I found that most of the machines were "off" from 5-13%. Chris
Ouch, that is brutal. I never experienced that with my credit union. I even had bags of halves I would get from other banks, so knew how much should be in the bag, and it was never off more than one fifty cent piece. IDK nowadays, since like my coins I just hoard my change. My wife goes through it occasionally and digs out quarters, but other than that I just have a huge jar I fill up, and when full put it into a mint bag and throw it downstairs with other bagged coins, (wheat cents, mixed world, etc). Hoarding has its privilieges.
