So I've got to ask... what is the deal with SGS certified coins? I'm not up on too much, is this company reputable? It seems that they probably aren't.

Abon.com has a lot of coins and auctions on Ebay for some supposedl top quality coins. I suspect they may be graded one or two grades too high.

Has anyone checked these guys out?

hello azmojo, welcome to the forum.

If you run a search on the forums for SGS, you will find a couple threads that deal with this particular subject.

One or two grades? More like 6-7 usually, I would guess

You know at one point I was ready to hop on the band wagon and say SHUT DOWN SGS but would that really solve the problem. Even if E-bay stopped SGS from selling coins Abon would just invent another fraudulent TPG and keep on keepn' on.

I think that Ebay should provide an educational link to article that describe the TPG's and show buyer confidence precentages. Instead of trying to find all the sneaks and theives they should just eduate the buyers.

I don't have much experience with Abon (1 purchase), but what I ordered was what I got, as it was described. (20 UNC SAC dollars)

Yes, they have been checked out and it has been found that the same person owns both companies. Basically, Aboncom slabs their own coins as SGS MS/PF70 for moderns and impossibly high MS grades for non-moderns. If you buy from aboncom be aware that the standard that SGS "adheres" to is NOT the same standard that NGC, ANACS, PCGS, and usually ICG adhere to. SGS is a tool that aboncom has inventedd to increase their sales.
