Does anyone know the correct weight range for this series? The specific coin is a Russian (Siberia) 10 kopecks dated 1770. Thank you.
Because of the crude technology back then, there is a range of 65+-5grams (I think) I don't have my reference book but if it's within 60 grams, that's about right. Quite a nice coin - they are getting quite difficult to find in decent condition, especially with the dates on it. Most of them I see are dateless, which is a real shame.
Thanks for the info gx. I agree, the crudeness makes grading difficult and finding nice ones real tough. I've seen these on various auctions described with weights anywhere from 47 grams up to over 70. Mine is 51. I guess the difference in planchet thicknesses really makes finding the proper range difficult. Thanks again.
Technical weight of a 10 kopek coin is supposed to be at 65.52grams but again control at that time is just poor. 51grams is a bit underweight but I guess you can live with it 47grams is just unreal unless it's horribly pitted, damaged, holed, etc. Sorry for being late as I'm just able to refer to my reference.
Thanks for referencing it and getting back to me. Yep, I can live with that. Especially sine this one looks, feels and even smells very much like the real thing. hya:
