What's going on in the fields on this eagle?

Fairly large picture, but I'm not sure what's going on in the fields on this coin. Can someone educate me... let me know if I should be concerned? gold_eagle.JPG

Gold is very soft. Those look like little hits in the field to me.

Thanks for the quick feedback. You would suggest that there's nothing to be concerned about if I'm thinking of buying this coin? I've seen coins with marks and so on, but the larger version of the image seems weird to me that the marks are so concentrated in the open areas, and they very clearly don't run into the design itself... that's why I decided to ask for opinions.

I wouldn't buy it the marks distract me too much

And how does the obverse side look? Same? Got a pic?

The raised areas prevent the little tick marks from being too close to those raised areas. I would bet the actual design parts have little marks too, it is just hard to see them because they are on the design. Then there is a little protected area surrounding the design, then flat areas that are easier to get banged up and dented up.

Like I figured, the raised areas are pretty beat up as well. Not a very attractive coin, but if you get it a little over spot, go for it

Kinda looks like it road around in the same saddle bag as the skillet.

I personally would not buy that coin. It's been beat up pretty bad. Luster is gone. Might have been wiped at some point. The reverse is far nicer and it's just so, so.

What are you looking for in a Gold Eagle? Do you want it for only it's gold?

Thanks for all the comments. It's available on eBay and I have a 4x ebay bucks that would save me a bit. Coinflation says melt is $609 and I could get the coin for about $80 over that. Probably am going to pass, as I don't like the looks.

Yeah, I've bought coins like that considerably closer to spot, and wouldn't pay the premium you're facing.

Guess I'm out of the market for bigger eBay purchases for the next few days, as the eBay Bucks multiple deals have gone out, and they've once again left me out. :(

Edit: it's been a long time since they've sent me a survey, too. I just checked my preferences, and I'm still supposed to get surveys and offers. I tried unchecking, saving, then re-checking and saving again; it shouldn't make any difference, but then again, I should be getting offers and surveys.

I have 2 accounts, and my wife has one. I do lots of business with my accounts, and did not receive the offer. Her account did receive it, so I will be bidding with her account today :)
