Do you like customer wrapped rolls or banked wrapped rolls better? And witch do you have better luck with?
I like customer wrapped rolls better than bank wrapped rolls because they are more mysterious (when compared to transparent plastic rolls), contain more foreign coins and often times are overfilled.
Very good points I have found a few Canadian coins and you never know what a little old lady may have put in there. I've seemed to have better luck with the customer wrapped and actually request them now
Yeah, CWR all the way. Same reasons as NOS: More overfills, more foreigns, more interesting stuff, and more silver on average. The only time I'd prefer BWR is when the CWR are re-wrapped halves.
Clorox has made the same good observations. It should be noted that good finds can still be found in BWR rolls, though. I've found silver dimes in plastic BWR rolls as well as buffalo and War nickels. While I prefer CWR, I won't turn down BWRs if they're offered to me.
Going against the grain, I actually have more luck with BWR. They typically yield more silver for me than CWR do. I am trying to increase my amount of CWR and hoping to hit that old lady jackpot one day.
I only do cents and nickels, but in general, I'm siding with BWR. Overfills and finding dimes in cent rolls is awesome, but I've also had a few underfills - not enough to offset the overs, but still...For nickels, BWR in my area yield a war nickel in just about every box. Also, I sometimes make 3 and 4 trips to the bank a week. Seeing sealed boxes lets me know that I'm not making a trip out just to grab the junk I've already been through.
What I do with CWRs now adays is that I will often empty one roll at a time for dimes and quarters. I will then count the coins and if the roll is short, I will reroll exactly as I found it. If it is overfilled, I will take away however many extra coins came out of the roll. I used to empty dime and quarter rolls all at once but upon rerolling, my last roll would often be short. I got sick of making up the difference because people don't know how to count so that's when I adopted the policy of refilling them with as many coins as they came with when I bought them (unless, like I said, they're overfilled and I will then keep the extras). I rotate banks as much as possible. What I do with the rolls I'll be dumping off is I'll mark them in sharpie with a "C" so I'll know if I get my old rolls back again. That has only happened like three times within the last seven years so I'm not too worried about seeing coins I've been through again.
