hi everyone,if you read my introduction im new here but not to collecting of various items, i havnt recieved my coin back from the pcgs but my "cheerios dollar" was graded an ms 67,doing research on these the prices fluctuate severely, i would like some input on what some of you think it's worth and any input would be appriciated,i understand that it is a new rare coin and not made of gold i also understand and believe that not to many of these will ever show up due to kids spending them which is what my now ex-wife wanted to do with this one.it was sent intact with the penny on the placard to the pcgs.
as soon as i recieve the coin back from them i just got the gradeing on tuesday and im waiting for it to post pics
PCGS website has the coin valued at $12,500. I don't have any recent auction prices for this coin to give you other prices. PCGS prices tend to be high, but I can't even give you an idea what this would go for. If you want to sell it, then I would definitely contact either Teletrade or Heritage. I think these two will give you the most for your coin. But once again, I have no experience here either. This is based on who I use for buying coins and what I have heard. If I had that kind of money, I would buy it off you in a heart beat because I need one for my collection. Maybe if I win the powerball on Saturday!
thanks i needed a chuckle, and i was pleasently surprised about the gradeing as well,an ms 66 just went for 2600 on HA and now there is an ms-67 with a but it now of 26,500 on e-bay,i still do not know if i will sell it, or hold it for a few more years and finding out the value of this recently was like hitting the lottery for me because i can't even get one number on the powerball.
I understand that if you send both the dollar and the penny to PCGS in the original packaging, they will grade the penny as a "Cherrios" penny...which has value for some people...for some reason. The dollar is the "key" to the series and MS67 is near the top...the sky is the limit, really. It just depends on how badly someone wants it.
Coins like the one you have will always be in demand to us collectors of the series. This past year I was very blessed to purchase a Goodacre sac. The next key is the Wounded Eagle and there is one on Teletrade this Sunday. The king daddy of this series is the one you will be holding soon. Collectors will always want it. It probably won't hurt to hold it, but it all depends on how bad you need the money and if your ex will get any of it.
they graded the penny ms-65 and now that the coin is graded there are alot of variables to take into consideration and you have hit on both, how bad someone wants it and how bad i need or want the money,as far as the ex goes the wheels have been turning and she wont get any, other variables for me were the rarity of this the demand and how many will actually surface,im not greedy but in the same respect i wont let it go for a song and dance, id like to try and replace some of the colection i had that my ex spent that had sentimental value more than anything,my grandparents and great grandparents would give us one or two silver dollars each holiday and kennedy halves
That is a great idea.....if you have no interest in sacs and don't want to collect it, then look to either selling it and using that money to build yourself a nice collection or maybe working something out with a dealer for trading. This way you can get some of those sentimental coins back in a sense. I know they won't be the original coins that you lost, but maybe some really nice replacements. Really at this point you are in no rush to do anything. Maybe even invest the money into some high yield stocks or bonds and make even more money. Have fun with it and congrats again. I really can't wait to see pics.
The Cherrios pattern is very easy to identify with even the smallest of magnification. It would be best if you had two Sac side by side for comparion. Take yours and then take any other Sac dated past 2000 to make things simple. With a Cherrios Sac, the tail feathers will have detailed features in the feathers. All other sacs do not have these features. So when you compare the tail feathers of both coins side by side, if your 2000 coin looks just like your post 2000 coin then you do not have a cherrios sac. But if the tail feathers are really detailed then there is a chance that you are holding a Cherrios sac..... but better pics are definitely a must to help determine this.
try this link and see if it works but it has a perfect pic to check against http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page20c.html
I would think that you could probably get $3200 to $4000 depending on how you sell it. It shouldn't be difficult to sell, you can place it on Heritage. It's all up to you as you hold a coin which is very rare.
i have the smooth type tail. which one is valuable? it will zoom in. left click on picture. thanks alot--- bill
Check out JW's link. The smooth tail type is the common one. This is very good to know the difference when roll searching. Earlier this year, the first Cheerios dollar was found in circulation.
thank you very much. i dont know much about these dollars , just found this one in my drawer. wouldnt be something if it was the valuable one!!!!!!!!!!! thanks again---BILL
