It conjures a lot history in my mind. Must have been something to walk into a bank with it and redeem it for a shiny double eagle back in the day. Thx for the positive comments, folks. I had this feeling yesterday that I should just write the check for it before someone else got it, esp since CU notes of this type are WAY out of my price range.
Funny thing is that most folks "back in the day" didn't even think of walking into the bank and redeeming this type of note. Oh the lost opportunity. Then again, you "paper" guys are probably thinking' "who'd want to trade this in?".....:smile
I like yesterdays purchase, Very clean!! Do you collect this series or Is this just a single purchase??
Single purchase (right now) to go with the double eagle collection. I wanted a decent looking "XX" gold note to go with them. Down the road, I may look for a Hillegas $10 gold series 1922 in similar condition when the bank account recharges from this purchase.
Very true. Hindsight is 20/20 as they would say. If I took this note to the Treasury in 1928 or so, there would be decent chance I would have rec'd a 1927-D Saint in exchange or another rarer Saint. But back to modern day, they are just damn pretty notes.
To have any opinion about "purchase" I would need 2 pieces of information - what you bought and what you paid. If you paid the face value then it's an incredible purchase. If you paid $1000000.00 then it's a stupid purchase.
I bought it with this note. Making change was a real problem...LOL. Seriously, I do business with a reputable dealer I have known for years. His buy/sell prices are fair.
