Here a 1943-P Jefferson Silver WWII grade about 15 years ago.would have it regraded ? and what grade u think it is and if I should as for details as the steps look full with a 10x lop.but my photo's are only 3.4x.
MS66 NO Full Steps, the third step is not complete and the 4th and 5th are mushy. You should even need magnification determine if a coin has full steps.
Let me say that this post shows the danger of grading coins from photos. These photos are so large that they are magnifying every little imperfection on the coin. I think the coin is a solid MS66 but the mark on the cheek (focal area) and the mark on the forehead along with the numerous small ticks on Monticello will limit the grade. The steps are not full as there is a bridge on the 4th step under both the 2nd and 3rd pillars. Having said that, the overall strike and luster on the coin are outstanding. I attempted to use photoshop to clean up your photos and present them at a size that is more conducive to accurate grading. Here is what I came up with. No so good I know. Anyway, that is a real nice war nickel but I wouldn't have it regraded no matter what the current holder says.
WWII is not a grade of coin. However, this is what's known as a War Nickel. In 1942 the US Mint started using silver in Jefferson Nickels, because the alloy nickel was needed for the war effort, along with copper and other metals. They ended the use of silver in the Jeffersons in 1945.
