hi all! i have a question. would you save a 1981A $1 bill? i got one about a year ago and was deciding if i wanted to keep it or spend it. what would you do?
Well that depends on several factors; 1. you must look at which Federal Reserve Bank issued the note. 2. Determine if it is a star note or not. 3. Most star notes from this series are on average $15-20 bucks. 4. Except the Dallas Star Note.. in Gem Crisp Unc..it is $750.00 So look and see if there is a large black "K" inside the Federal Reserve Bank Seal left of Washington's portriat. There ya have it....BTW most other 1981 A notes are listed at around $4.50 ea in Ch Unc condition. RickieB
the serial number is J97xxx993A not a star note. it has a J for kansas city missouri for its block letter. and when i hold one side of the note, it just flops over. in other words its limp. and it has a small margin rip on the side. its not a bad rip, it stays on the margin. its definaltly not uncirculated. is it worth more than a buck in this condition?
keep it!!! its only a dollar i mean if you really need a dollar dig around in your pocket for some quarters
Coinlover... It's really up to you to decide what to do with it. It's value is just that $1 dollar. It would need to be Ch Cu to be worth the 4.50 I mentioned. Sometimes you see people in business tack up the first dollar they make..well you could tack it up near your collection as the first cool $ that you foun..after all..it is only a dollar! RickieB
i'll keep it. after all, its not every day you find a 26 year old bill in your pocket. even if it isn't a star note, from a rare place, or in that good of condition, its still a old dollar.
A good choice indeed. Anytime someone says to spend a perfectly good and historic bill, I recommend just ignoring them. I can go through several hundred singles from banks before I find one that is pre-1995.
I would probably keep it if I did not have a 1981 $1 note already. I wouldn't be doing it for value reasons, but simply because I am a collector.
Keep it. I have an ordinary $1 that I hold on to as a souvenier just because I found it IN the ocean while snorkeling in the bahamas.
