If you had extremely limited time, how would you search about $500 in mostly quarters and dimes (and about 50 Susan B Anthony dollars)? Which dates would you pull to look for errors/varieties? These are going right to the bank when I’m done, but I just can’t deposit them without at least looking. I’ve already pulled the silver (6 nickels, 1 Dime) and two buffalo nickels. Thanks for your input!
look at the edge for silver on dimes and quarters. if you see copper on the edge it's clad not silver...
If you've already pulled the silver, don't waste your time searching for anything else, in my opinion.
Errors can happen on any date, so in this regard you're kind of screwed if not wanting to look at each coin. With varieties, this could be one of the few examples of where the cherrypickers guides can be a valuable resource compared to other options/listings. Being as said books list what is essentially the winners of a popularity and/or value contest, it could be used as a starting point to whittle down the number to examine. You could also use websites (think Wexler's "Best Of") as another way of separating dates/mints/types known for more valuable and/or significant varieties. Unfortunately, there are always exceptions, but in cases like this all is up to the individual as to how far and/or deep they wish to go. Good luck no matter your choice.
Good points. I do own both books in relatively new editions and will consult them. I was just curious what the "pros" do when they roll search and recommendations for paring things down. I'll see what others suggest and post updates when I finally get around to searching these. I know I'll be looking closer at all 1982 dimes.
I think Books idea is pretty much all you need if just looking for the more valuable possibilities. Me, I'm retired so I would search them all but most folks here probably have a job so this would take a lot of time and patience. If time and getting them back to the bank quickly is not a factor them spend some time with them. Let us know how you make out. Tom
