So I recently purchased a 10 Dollar Trinidad and Tobago 10 Dollar silver coin off ebay. It came yesterday and was a 50 cent Trinidad and Tobago coin instead. I contacted the seller and he said if I sent it back and it wasn't damaged he would return my money. Should I request he cover shipping as well, should I move it further up through ebay?, or should I just send it back and hopefully he returns my money. He's already sent the wrong coin to me. I don't have much confidence he will be honest about receiving the coin undamaged.
I'd ask the seller to cover it although with the new 'request step' when requesting a return when selecting wrong item, etc it will do this automatically I believe. I'd avoid escalating to a case unless absolutely necessary. Although everyone always like to say that Ebay unfairly favors buyers lately I've been having horrible experiences with sellers sending me incorrect items or not including things and then Ebay deciding the sellers don't have to take a return, etc.
The seller is the one that messed up, in this case they should cover the return shipping or work out a deal for that one if you like it
I asked the seller if he would cover shipping. We'll see what he says. He seemed rather upset about me contacting him in the first place.
Probably but that is what happens when you run ebay auctions with low starting bids. The days of buyers bidders everything up to their value are long gone on there.
I would click on request a return, and select item not as described for reason. He will have to pay return shipping.
That's what I did. He told me to return it and if it showed up he would refund my money. He didn't mention reimbursing for my paying for shipping.
At one point, I saw three of Post #13 from the OP, and two of the one I posted. So I edited one of mine, and when I got back to the thread the other one and two of the three from the OP had disappeared. I'm drinking coffee, but I swear that's the only drug in my system. Furryfrog, he needs to cover shipping. He sent you the wrong coin. I was going to say if you escalated before giving him the chance to make it good, you would be in the wrong (OK, honestly, I used stronger language). Tell him you're not paying for his mistake - give him that much warning - and if he refuses, escalate immediately.
Ha I don't know about the missing posts: Here is what has happened thus far: I contacted him about a refund. He told me to return the coin undamaged and he would refund my money. He has made no indication that he would be paying shipping. I am waiting for his reply. If he doesn't offer to pay return shipping then I will be escalating immediately.
I'd definitely raise it as SNAD with eBay. If you return it without entering tracking info into eBay's system, and he decides not to refund your money, you've got no recourse. Running the process through eBay, they'll force the refund if they see that the package has been delivered to him.
