hey guys i am wondering what everyone here thinks this mercury dime would grade. this is my first attempt at pictures so i hope they look okay. My guess would be a 63 but i am new at this and obviously is does not have FB which is hard to find for this year
i agree dime freak because htis year is known for weak strikes and worn dies hence the lack of FB i have a few others i will be posting could anyone point out the wear
This year is hard to find in great details, light strikes. Try to find a "FSB" in high grade. This is because they were in a hurry to get the "Roosevelt" out. -O) I have seen only one in the last year and it's price was over $3,500.00.
This is a toughie...liberty's hair and the winged cap both look like they have wear in the first two pics, but the third pic of the obverse the hair looks rounded like it was just a weak strike...I said Au, but I'm a collector not a grader.
Yeah thats the tough part with this year is the strike was so weak that it is hard to tell weak strike from wear unless you have the coin in hand. I tend to lean towards the weak strike on this coin because the surfaces look rounded in hand. but then again i am very new to the whole grading thing. I have a couple more i will be posting they are all mercs i had a friend that had a few AU/MS ones in 2x2's he let me take some pictures of because i want to collect mercs so i want to get my grading on them a little better for when i start to buy them
pm me your adress I have a MS65 weak strike 45P Ill send to ya and you can compare and keep so you know in the future
I Agree this is a difficult year to grade, but from the photos i would say AU. Generally, even with a weak strike, the surfaces tend to have luster, and tone ( even if it appears white) similarly, whereas the high areas and some of the obverse field of this coin seem to show some wear disturbance.
