One of the first posts I made was a grading post, my reference was the 1965 guidebook, some of the more seasoned collectors let me know that grading has changed over the last 40 years, so last week I bought coinworlds "Making the Grade" Checking out your coin it seems to me that the grade is at least an au-58, for some reason the book skips from au-58 to ms-63r, I would guess it is somewhere between 58 and 63 but I could be missing the luster clues
Depends on how much luster and how much rub there is on the coin. It looks pretty clean, I'd say mint state looking at the rims. But you never know what's hiding under a scan. Given all of the above, I'd venture to say it's a 63 RD, but I don't feel very confident at all in my assessment.
Enough marks, particularly on the obverse, to keep it to a 63. Rim at 9. Shoulder. Hair and behind the head. But the real killer is whatever is happening on the rim at 1 to 2. Verdigris?
Actually if that IS verdigris on the rim it would probably be body bagged by the TPGs. If so, then any grade is moot. Take a look at my Lincoln in the "Any Hope for This Coin?" post. Same problem.
