ok so since ive gotten my new...fancy :hail: magnyfing glass..lol ive noticed two things on one coin... on the edge of all the letters and numbers... ( well not all, but some) there is excess alloys on the rims of the letters and numbers.. and then theres a tiny tiny tiny crack running horizontally across the coin from two high points.. would that be a die crack?

It could be several things - die deterioration, a doubled die, mechanical doubling or maybe even die chips. If you can, post a pic and we can probably help you out.

And yes, it sounds like a die crack.

ahhhh magnification .. it has SO helped me see more of the things that make coins worth face value :D mainly Mechanical Doubling.

Hope you can post some pics as Doug said - they will give these guys exactly what they need to help you :)

no there is no way at all that i could get that close... i would have to get a photo place to take pictures for me... but that would cost too much.. maybe ill invest in a scanner.. would that be a good enough picture? ive never used one before.. yah and its definitley not double die just extra metal on the outside edges and only on a few letters and numbers

If you are looking for Error Coins Magnification can be your friend 16x-20x .. but if you are just collecting standard type anything over 7x is a waste. Most only use 5x
With ENOUGH magnification you can make any coin look bad or at least different.
