I've always been fascinated with money and its value throughout the years. I was wondering what a $5 gold piece would be worth in 1908, since thats the date of my 5 dollar indian head. My grandma told me before she died that you could buy alot with 25 cents. And later, you could buy fries at mcdonalds for 5 cents! And I also heard that most people didn't cary arond gold because it was so much money and it was so heavy. And I've looked around but can't find gold pieces values. I have an estimate though, i think 5 dollars was a full work day. I think this would be a good and interesting thread.
This is what I found, which one is it though? In 2003, $5.00 from 1908 is worth: $99.13 using the Consumer Price Index $77.09 using the GDP deflator $458.61 using the unskilled wage $626.01 using the GDP per capita $1,908.65 using the relative share of GDP
Wow, here I thought this would be an interesting thread, and no one responds! What dickens, I tell you.
Wow, 3 days, and this thread is dead. Either no one is interested, and or people are just trying to ignore every thread I make!
