OK, you know the drill... Here is the 5th coin in the series of 10.... What will PCGS grade this coin (or if they don't grade it, why?): What will PCGS say?
Slight porosity, a light, but long scratch and rim bruise at about 9 o'clock. Technically it's damaged and should not be graded. But I would not be surprised surprised if they did grade it though since they seem to be pretty lenient on these in that regard. Personally, I'd say VF details.
My first instinct is no-grade but I also don't think you would submit a coin you didn't think would grade. I'll say EF40 if it graded.
I agree with your assessment...with one additional comment. The coin seems to have been cleaned at some point in its life. The color (esp. the Obv.) seems to be a bit off (imho). Nice N4/A4 example otherwise.
Are those scratches on the coin? Is that a rim ding I see on the reverse? My first thought when seeing the obverse was VF30 to XF40, then the reverse I thought PCGS GENUINE cause of the rim and the stain near it. Those two together makes me think it is in a genuine holder. Now I have to ask what am I missing - not an N-2, so what am I missing.
Yes, there is an old scratch on the obverse. Yes, there is a rim ding most visible on the reverse shot.
Whoops! I had forgotten about this one. THanks for the reminder, Mark. PCGS returned the coin in a "Genuine" holder -- "98 - Damage or Tooling". I would have gagged if they did anything else. The reverse edge bruise has been tooled down to be less conspicuous.
