Last year I had to find a 2012 pure nickel proof, a 2012 pure silver proof, a 2012 parallel lined reverse cameo like specimen and a 2012 regular circulation issue with a Manitoba logo mintmark. I think that's all there were. So what will be in the 5 cent denomination for Canada coinage this coming year. Does anyone know? Thanks! I am also a little curious about 2013 1 cent denominations although I don't think there will be any released for circulation. I am suspecting there will be proofs and specimen 1 cent coins and this does not concern me since my set ended with circulation coins. ( maybe  )
My understanding is that starting 2013 Canada will no longer mint 1 cent coins (their last 1 cent was minted this May. Had a big ceremony for it and all. The second to last was donated to ANA's Money Museum). As for 5 cents, don't really know. R.I.P. Canadian cent, 1858-2012.
Thank you kindly Troodon. I have a complete date set plus many varieties of the Canada cents that were minted for circulation and/or non proof issues from 1858 to 2012 and a pretty large type set of pre confederation cents and colonial copper tokens. I am glad to close the book on that collection at this point but the nickels are still rolling in I am afraid and I have tried to collect all of those since 1922.
Didn't get a whole lot of attention in this post but I have acquired 3 five cent coins for 2013 for Canada so far. Last year there was the pure nickel proof as well as these. Just wonder if I'll have to hunt for the pure nickel yet? I don't know does anyone else? Here is the specimen, uncirculated and silver proof that I have.
Howdy Wheezy ... ummm, I'm pretty sure that they've had those three varieties every year since 1996: Proof (Silver) Specimen (etched parallel lines) Uncirculated ... right? ... or are you saying that there is a fourth type? Howdy, dawg!!
Yeah last year there were 4 ( a pure nickel proof and a pure silver proof ) so I don't know what they will pull this year to make it tough on us. There are other years there were logo and P or W mint marks as well as specimens and proofs. For the really OCD people like me there are a lot more to look for. There was a "baby nickel" proof in 1998 in both matte and cameo proof and a cameo baby in 2011 which is the only 5 cent coin I don't have that I can tell since 1922.
Huh? ... I've never heard of the pure nickel proof? (were they sold as pure nickel proof sets, or merely individual coins?)
I bought it as a single and it was listed as such but it is obviously nickel and side by side next to the silver proof I have it is plain to see. From what I can tell it probably came out of this set. Silver Dollar Proof Set - 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812 - Mintage: 40000 (2012)
