I did find Franklin's regularly and the occasional WLH , this was when my Grandmother would buy a roll back in the early '60s for me to fill a Whitman folder , of Frankies , but whatever was a duplicate would go back to the bank as that was a hunk of money even then . In the late '70s and early '80's Finding a Franklin was a biggie with most finds were the 40% silver Kennedy's with the occasional '64 .
In the early 90's WWII walkers and Franklins were not unheard of in bags of halves. I used to get a $500 bag and find 5-15 90% halves, and about 30-40 40% halves per bag. Problem was, there were not that many bags to find since they didn't circulate much.
Great finds for the '90s . Where were you getting your halves from ? I must have searched about 100 rolls and probably more in the late '70s to early '80s and never found a Walker , by then even the 40% coins were hard to come by in the banks around me .
Well it was the early 90's in Iowa, so considering everyone says we were a decade behind it was like the 80's. I got them from small banks and credit unions in Des Moines. I basically would collect up whatever they had in their safe with the promise to not bring them back. Banks have always hated halves. I would deposit them into my local CU and they would send them back to the Fed.
I think in Chicago a lot of people had the same idea as we did so the silver got pulled out quickly . Too bad it still isn't like that .
That is the truth! Chicago is bad for hunting halves!!! My oldest is a 1944 Walker. I have only found 8 90% halves in my searching here. I have given up on halves. I usually hunt nickels and cents, with an occasional box of dimes. I have scored 2 silver quarters in random teller trays also...
I found a roll of 64s once. Also bought a bag from a bank that had $150 face value in silver, mostly 40%ers but one was a 54 benji. The melt value of that bag was about $1300 at the time.
1941 WLH, and 1952 Franklin found in rolls about 2006. At that time the bank had about $600 in rolled halves in the vault. I bought $200 worth intending to go back for the rest. When I returned they said they had sent all the rolls back to the supplier, Dunbar. The older lady head teller was kind of snippy. I think she sent them back so I couldn't get them.
I search halves pretty hard but the oldest I have pulled is a 1929 cut in half here is pics I pulled it in 2012 a local coin shop offered me 5 bucks probably 6 months ago I wasn't sure it was real , but it's a keeper for me
