I liked them - they gave me a reason to look at my pocket change again - and I could fill a Dansco at face value.

But after 20 years, I've become a bit fatigued by them I must admit.

.. that they were still worth only 25 cents.

Well, almost! If I recall, the 9-coin silver proof set sold for about $31.95 (I think!). The Mint had no idea how popular the state quarters would become, so demand for the silver proof sets far exceeded production. By the time the year 2000 rolled around and the Mint ceased production of the 1999 silver proof sets, they were selling for as much as $375 per set.

One point in time some coin catalogs were selling the 1999 silver proof sets for the sky high price of $800 but since than they have fallen to around $90, feel bad for the ones who paid that $800.I think the prices have dropped like a rock is because the market is too flooded out with new products.

Kasia Got my learning hat on

Have to say I was not that thrilled at first. Plus, I was not actively collecting at that time. But what finally got me collecting was that Wisconsin error (high or low leaf) so I started paying attention to them. And no, I never found one of those.

I think most of my collecting again started with trying to find error coins, and has since progressed that I collect and really now enjoy coins without errors as well. I'm not sure if I would ever have started a 7070 had I not really learned more about coins in this endeavor, because you are forced to understand the coin and pay attention to the minting process and vagaries of various issues if you want to be at least somewhat good at it. And after that, I' branched out to look at modern gem quality coins.

There is so much to learn in any one small part of numismastics, and starting one place may not be the path you only take.

I have a couple 1999 Proof Silver Sets.
I should have sold them but I wasn't paying attention to the aftermarket back then.

were there any special error coins related to those sets ?

I liked them and collected them for my dansco album. I am also doing the ATB quarters for a dansco album. Only some of the designs were nice. Sorry to say most were not very good/interesting. IMHO. I collect mostly world coins.
