One of these days I will get a better camera to take clearer images sorry ahead of time. Anyways, if this indeed is an error what kind of error is this? Is it common? Thanks in advance. Mike B.
You might try shooting through a magnifier. The major variety of double die, die #1, you can see with almost any photo, the rest really need a closer look and photo. Machine doubling is usually the safest thought to start with, until better photos come along. Here is photo documentation of the 1972 Doubled die obverse varieties. You might check out this site as it has a huge resource for lincolncents. http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/dietype.php?date=1972&die_mint=p&die_type=do&page=0 Jim
It appears to be a misaligned die. Check the reverse and if it is normal then it is indeed a misaligned die. An off-center strike would affect both sides of the coin.
Reverse= normal... LOL I feel like a redneck, but I am looking through a pair of my binos the opposite way to magnify with a flashlight for my light source...
