i have several coins like this that are fairly stable. do you mean the patina is actively flaking off when you touch it sometimes? maybe some ren wax?
Don't do anything IMO. It can only get worse, not better. That type of patina, when removed, will reveal a corroded, pitted mess of a core. It is a nice (albeit fragile) coin. Just leave it be.
As long as the rest of the patina is stable, I am in the leave it be group. AE coins do look better with an even patina, but I do not know how to make the missing parts match. This recent purchase was low priced due to the uneven patina. I think it is a great coin. In the words of the Beatles: "Let it be".
