Hey guys what do you all think is going to happen with the price of silver? Would right now be a good time to liquidate/trade junk/common silver for more desirable copper coins? I'm just wondering what the general consensus is. Thanks
You read my mind. I'm planning to sell a bunch and buy some eac's. Figure I'll get more enjoyment from them than a pile of silver dimes. Guy
I sure and heak would not sell silver coins for copper coins. Silver at about $33.00 an ounce. Copper is under $5.00 a lb. Copper coins and bars may have a little more value then scrap copper. However, where are you going to sell copper coins? Remember, supply and demand. Lot more copper out there to mine then silver. If you think silver is going up, and your willing to hold on to it for a while. Keep it.
13 counting this one.... and if anyone thinks the price is insanely high right now, just hold on for the upcoming ride...
We're not talking about investing in copper, we're talking about selling silver to further the hobby of collecting coins. I'd rather have a nice set of large cents than a giant pile of ugly silver dimes any day. Obviously if investing were the issue, silver for copper would be a bad deal. Guy
I believe silver will keep going up. Although i do not know the future. As for me i am keeping my junk silver coins for now. In my point of view i believe silver will be much more worth later on in life but, as i said again. I do not know the future. :|
Yeah, I was meaning trading/liquidating $x.xx (metal value) silver for $x.xx (numismatic value) copper or whatever....
don't sell anything you might regret having sold later. I've wanted a fugio for quite some time and know thy aren't easy to find in decent shape.
Ummm, because thats what some people collect. I for one don't invest in bullion, so why not copper? Guy
I've finally started selling silver now that it's been sustained at a value of over $30/oz for a while. Could it continue to go up? Sure, but I bought most of mine betw $12-18/oz so it's time for some profit taking.
I sold my set of Peace dollars. I am a bit sad, I'll probably never own one again. Had to sell due to economic circumstances. I got $920 on ebay. Net about $830.
On Friday I noticed that Silver was up to $32.70/Oz on the COMEX and decided I could wait no longer. At the current prices, the Silver to Gold ratio is roughly 42.5:1. The ratio of silver to numismatically valuable items (ie cents, which is something i collect) is even more out of traditional line. Thus, I went through my collection boxes and pulled out 33 Oz of my least favorite items and tossed them up on Ebay. In short, one unattractive 5 Oz bar, one fugly 10 Oz bar, three SAEs, and 19 Morgan Silver $ culls fetched nearly $1100 immediately via "buy it now" before the outragious Ebay selling fees. I could have got more if I was willing to be more patient and or if I sold these items through a source more reasonable the Ebay. But, I'm pleased. The bottom line is, even after all the selling and shipping costs I incurred I still received nearly 3 times what I paid for these items and these were all items I didn't particularly care for and sort of regretted purchasing at the time (only a few years ago). Now I'm going to use the proceeds to purchase some numismatic items (presently under-valued IMO relative to silver) to enhance my collection of cents. For example, I asked myself, which would I rather have: this 1909-S lincoln cent http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...NkhWRaY%3D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT or a 5 Oz silver bar + 3 Silver American Eagles (duplicate dates in my collection) + 2 Morgan Silver $ culls. Well, now I've got this cent and somebody else has those silver items which I wasn't too fond off to begin with. It all comes down to personal preference folks. After all, this is a hobby for us right? Btw, you guys like my new penny?
Captainkirk: What were the average grades of the Peace dollars in your set? If you don't mind me asking.
