Over the years I have accumulated a few pounds of foreign coins. I don't want them and can not bring myself to throw them out. Would selling them as a bulk buy do any good? Do any of you purchase such? They may have some value but to take them to a money exchange would be a real hassle. Any interest? I'll shoot a few photos. Mike
Here's what I do: Stick 'em in a 2x2 and sell them at the local flea market three for a buck. I sell out almost every time. Also I sell Ikes three for five dollars and Kennedy halves three for two dollars. Basically I have an unlimited supply of these, so keeping stock is a non-issue.
I donated several pounds to the "Treasure Hunt" at the Long Beach coin show earlier this year. I still have a few pounds I would like to unload. I sometimes give a few away as added bonuses in trades and such.
Or just sell them on Ebay or here on CT. World coin collectors buy mixed coins by the pound all of the time. Search world coins on Ebay for "pound or lb", and you get a ton of auctions, (and not just for british coins lol).
First you want to remove all the platinum, gold, and silver coins. The balance would probably only sell for a few dollars a pound so consider donating them to your local elementary school or boy scout troop. If you post a couple photos here, then we can let you know if you have any better coins that might be sold rather than donated.
Yeah, those dang pesky czarist Russia platinum coins are always overflowing out of MY junk pile of world coins.
Check with your local coin shows and see if they have any Young Numismatist programs. If so, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to take the coins off your hands to give to the kids.
If you only have a few pounds, the donation part sounds like a good idea. Then you can get your tax write off slip.
Exactly. Foreign coins are garbage, nobody uses or collects them. It is unclear why were they minted in the first place!
Right now people from the Bermuda and Costa Rican mints are reading your posts. And they probably agree with you on that!
Certainly don't throw them away. A lot of people value foreign coins even if they have no book value. Folks like myself try to complete sets just like others do with American coins, and you may have the one that someone is looking for.
Yeah, but make sure OP that you IMMEDIATELY throw away any 1975 dated Mexican coins. Those little pieces of garbage need to be destroyed post haste. For any one else reading this, sorry, its a little inside joke.
Absolutely... you would be surprised how many people have never even seen a half dollar or an Ike, and don't realize they can get them at the bank for face.
I have a lot of foreign coins...... i mostly try to collect silver ones because they are worth something, but i would love to have more foreign coins. If your still trying to get rid of them i would be interested in them.
