What to ask a bank

Lets say I want to go to a bank, and ask if they have any old style bills. Do I just straight out ask or what? By the way I'm 14 so it would seem kind of weird lol. Banker going in his/her head, "Wtf does he want with old bills" LOL.:hatch:

i would go to the bank that your parents bank at. talk to the teller let them know you are collector. i am sure they would be happy to help you out. if they don't have anything at that time you can just keep going back to that same teller when you go back to the bank. they just might put some aside for you. i have quite a few customers that come in and request certain paper currency and coins. i always try to put aside what i can for them. LOL. unless i come across something i want to add to my collection. hope that help with your endeavors:thumb:

 

Talk to the branch manager. He/she would probably be glad to help out a kid.

 

Speaking from experience. The head teller (or teller supervisor) is the best place to start. If she doesn't want to cooperate, it doesn't matter what the manager says.

Make sure you bother them when there are NO customers in line. The fact that you are young gives you an edge, but you can quickly lose it if you are tying up tellers when there are customers to be waited on.

Always share your finds with them (I'm talking show and tell, not physically giving them your finds)
Always show appreciation, even if they set something aside you don't want, buy it and spend it somewhere else.

I'm 16, and I've only had trouble once. Just go up and say that you would like to get some "Old-style" bills with small portraits. Most tellers will look through their drawers and give you whatever they have. One thing to note: Take all of the bills they offer you, unless it is over 200-300 dollars. Otherwise, they'll think your being "picky" and holding up the line of paying customers. Eventually, they will get to know you enough so that they will hold bills for you, unless the bank is very busy.

 

Hand them a note stating you want old notes.

I recently went into our Companies local Bank "Branch" I took over 400K in deposits and asked the tellers if they had any new or new old looking notes?..They mentioned they would keep an open eye fro me but only get new money around Xmass time!

Go figure...I think I will take the next deposits to the Regional Bank and try my luck there....

I would just ask, worse they can do is say no. Just talk respectively, and politely, and that should help you make great strides in developing a relationship with that bank. :thumb: Best of luck to you. :thumb:
