Sounds like you already have a nice little care package of coin goodies.

What is the purpose of this care package? Are you trying to introduce him to collecting? Or is he in the military and you just want to show support?

Also, is he an American living in the UK or a Brit? If you are trying to get him into collecting coins, would he not be more interested in UK coins versus US?

Do not get stuck thinking. At first, find out what year your friend was born. Then send him same year US proof or BU coin set. (you can easily find such sets on ebay.) I am sure your friend will be happy.
In my opinion birth year set is the perfect gift for almost anybody. Good luck.

P.S. If you think coin set is not enough, then add Jack Daniels to it :D

Your friend might like something that was "dug". In my experience, many detectorists appreciate items most when the item looks like it was "dug". Perhaps you could send him something "dug" from your neighborhood such as a Civil War bullet or an American Indian arrowhead. They don't find those historic items buried in the UK.
