I got two rolls of silver eagles and noticed that one of my coins was very Misaligned. How much do you think it is worth? Should i send it to someone to be graded? This is my first silver purchase and i am new to collecting coins. I saw a similar graded coin like mine go for $183 on coins.ha I think mine is more Misaligned though. Thanks.

Is the reverse also off center?

The reverse side appears to be off center as well. DSC09160.JPG

It is hard to tell from your photo because the photo is taken at an angle. Can you please post a photo taken straight into the coin rather than at an angle?

Yes! We need to see the reverse. It could be either an off-center or misaligned die. It's best if you take the photo from directly overhead so we can get a better idea of the condition. Nice find!

That's pretty sweet...have to think it would bring some kind of decent premium...

It's hard to tell from your photos, but is the obverse side of the edge raised above the rim? If so, it might be that the collar was not set properly in place before striking.

I believe it got fingerprints on it when the dealer counted the number of coins in front of me. I had ordered several rolls and they wanted to count them out in front of me before i signed for them. The dealer wanted to trade me a "good looking coin" for the ugly one. I guess they might of been within their rights to substitute before they gave me the coins. I don't know what dealers normally do. It was sort of funny they tried to switch the coin so fast on me, i almost walked out of the store with the extra coin they had substituted.

Each coin is hand placed into a tube. How does a worker miss this?

  18. Put in acetone immediately, rinse with distilled water and let dry. Hopefully the fingerprints aren't etched into the surface.

    Edit: Very cool piece!

Reverse appears normal so it is a really nice MAD with some good finning. A MAD like this on a smaller coin isn't that big a deal but on and ASE it is significant. I would think that $183 figure mentioned earlier would possibly be a minimum figure. (Which explains why the dealer was so ready to swap it for a "nice" one. Here let me trade this $30 for for your $200 one.)

Good suggestion. Followed your advice Log Potato and the fingerprints came right off. Do you think i should try to get the coin graded?

That was good advice. I am happy you were able to remove the fingerprints.

If I were you I would probably submit it to PCGS or NGC. Having it authenticated as a Mint error by one of them should make your coin more marketable.
