What made this pattern, and is it a struck thru?

Someone got a small punch and decided to decorate the Cent with incuse squares. Damaged in circulation, not a strike through or any other type of error either.

Vice job. Not the usual vice job, but rather the pattern of a vice face.

Thanks alot guys for the responses. I like the unusual, so it will join the "odd collection".

I agree that it is marks made from the "teeth" of a vice.
I also like unusual and damaged coins.

Almost looks like a failure of the waffling machine (if there had been one back then).

Looks like someone took a waffling hammer (looks like a meat tenderizer) and hit with 3-5# hammer

I would but I hate Lincoln burgers. I'd rather eat a medium rare Buffalo Burger instead. lol.gif lol.gif lol.gif

This. Except the tool is spelled "vise". ("Vice" is bad behavior.)

I noticed that. It is incorrect. But such a common spelling mistake that it’s probably an acceptable alternate spelling by now. After all, everyone pronounces it “vice”.
