Story would be better if you knew which ship they were salvaged from. It is a 1783 8 Reales struck in Mexico City with the F F coiner and assayer initials which strongly points to the El Cazador shipwreck as being the source. There are literally thousands of these coins out there.
Your coin certainly has the "look" associated with ocean salvaged examples. It'd be helpful to see the others. The 8 reales recovered from the El Cazador (over 400,000 of them) were dated 1783 at the latest, and other dates as early as 1776 can be found pretty easily. You might weigh yours. Although it doesn't show any serious erosion, you may find it's a smidgenm light nonetheless owing to its long immersion in seawater.
